Description

The MUGAZIKLO project aims to promote sustainable, interconnected, and multimodal cross-border mobility in the shared space of Gipuzkoa, Navarra, and the Atlantic Pyrenees. Its purpose is to encourage the use of bicycles as an active and sustainable mode of transportation through the creation of new cycling routes, raising public awareness, and improving services and governance of infrastructure in the region.

With a cross-border approach, MUGAZIKLO takes a step further in developing a Cross-Border Network of Cycling Routes, integrating infrastructure and services across the three territories. It also seeks to establish a structural cooperation that ensures long-term joint planning.

Main actions

  • Developing cycling infrastructure: construction of 32.6 km of new cycling routes and creation of 8 secure bicycle parking spaces at strategic points.
  • Raising awareness and improving services: designing and implementing a joint awareness plan to promote bicycle use and studying and testing a new cross border bicycle rental system
  • Capitalizing and improving the management of the cycling network: analyzing cycling route management models in the three territories and sharing experiences through cross-border workshops and meetings, facilitating cooperation and mutual learning.
