AFOMEF promotes new projects to strengthen cross-border cooperation
On Friday, February 14th, the members of AFOMEF's Steering Committee—composed of representatives from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, Euskadi, Navarra, the Department of the Atlantic Pyrenees, the Community of Agglomeration of the Basque Country, and the Provincial Government of Gipuzkoa—met to advance the proposal of projects that will be presented to the programming committee of the POCTEFA program.
This meeting marks a key step in the implementation of the territorial strategy for cross-border cooperation in the POCTEFA's Western Functional Area. With this proposal, AFOMEF reaffirms its commitment to the integration and social and economic development of the involved territories under the premise of "cooperating to move forward." The proposed initiatives align with the three strategic pillars of AFOMEF's territorial strategy: employment, mobility, and multilingualism. With a clear cross-border approach and a structuring nature, these projects aim to strengthen cooperation between the territories and establish action priorities to improve the quality of life for the population in the border area.
During the meeting, participants highlighted the importance of continuing to advance the development of AFOMEF and consolidating the multi-level governance of the involved territories. This approach has allowed for the territorialization of the FEDER funds and directed them towards concrete projects that address the everyday challenges of the local population. They also emphasized the need to tackle these challenges from an integrated, innovative, and multidisciplinary perspective.
The list of scheduled projects will be announced in a press conference scheduled for mid-March.
