SAREBIDE: A BOOST FOR THE DIGITALISATION AND DISSEMINATION OF CONTENT IN BASQUE

On Friday 14 November, the SAREBIDE project was presented at the Condestable Palace in Pamplona. It is a European initiative framed within the AFOMEF (Western Functional Area) device, co-financed by the INTERREG VI-A POCTEFA 2021-2027 programme and led by BERRIA, in collaboration with Hamaika Telebista, Euskal Irratiak, Kanaldude, Euskalerria Irratia, and the Elhuyar Foundation.

The project aims to reinforce the Basque-language communication ecosystem by bringing audiovisual and musical content closer to new audiences in Euskadi, Navarre, and Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The presentation was attended by representatives of the participating media, as well as Ana Ollo, Second Vice President of the Government of Navarre and Minister for Memory and Coexistence, External Action, and the Basque Language.

SAREBIDE has three main objectives: to create a technological collaboration network among the project’s partner media; to develop new platforms and common channels for disseminating audiovisual and musical content; and to reach new audiences. Finally, it aims to update the digital infrastructure of the participating media and incorporate artificial intelligence tools to improve the management of shared content.

The project includes the launch of two new digital platforms: one to centralise and disseminate audiovisual content, and another to renew the Badok website, offering a music streaming space that preserves and promotes Basque music.

“Only through joint projects like this can we achieve progress that would be impossible on our own,”

emphasised Juan Kruz Lakasta of Euskalerria Irratia. Meanwhile, Ainhoa Jauregi, director of Hamaika Telebista, stressed that

“this is a step towards strengthening the entire Basque-language communication ecosystem.”

The project was approved six months ago and, according to Pello Urzelai, spokesperson for BERRIA, firm steps have already been taken to advance the three objectives of the project.
